Holden Pendleton's forces encountered Sir Geoffrey Meadows in the second engagement to take place in the Blackwood Forest.
Sir Geoffrey Meadows, left as the rear guard for Sir Ulric the Falconheart, entrenched his forces across Blackwood in preparation for Lord Holden's approach. When Holden's men approached, Sir Geoffrey launched a brief offensive that quickly lured them into the planned defenses of his men.
The battle that resulted was largely a matter of false thrusts and feints, trapping neither side and forcing both to bide their time.
By preventing Lord Holden from supporting Mortimer's position, Sir Geoffrey gained a "victory", as alone Mortimer was incapable of defeating the defenses of Blackwatch Keep.
