The House of Doerr was an ancient household originating in Strom.  It was a rival to the House of Grimm in almost every field of confrontation, with the House of Doerr initially the superior household.  Unlike the Grimms, who were a confederation of rival lords, the House of Doerr favored a strong central government that encouraged regimented fighting and decisive military action.

Founded by Droman Doerr, a Stromic knight that had risen to the head of his household through martial prowess and trained them into a cohesive, powerful unit. This adherence to a strong center upon which to build saw the Doerr name slowly begin to gain prominence for its elite and professional soldiers, much like men such as Lord Tylan Bloodjoy would come to enjoy in years to come.

Early Trials[]

While an elite fighting force was commendable, their small numbers meant that the House of Doerr could only control or engage in so many conflicts. The House of Grimm, with its confederation, was able to initial break out and rapidly conquer territories, often placing themselves intentionally in the Doerr path in order to encourage confrontation. It was understood that while no Grimm war party would stand up directly to the Doerr, they would nevertheless have numbers to overcome them in time.

For this reason, the Doerr devoted themselves to tackling the most difficult and trying territories. Claiming lands such as the Fallow Marches, Direpoint, and Sorrough, they established domains that could be defended and worked to increase their prominence as the confederation of Grimms began to splinter all the more.

Initial Success[]

Though the House of Doerr was well established by the time of the creation of the House of Falomyr, it was an event that certainly spoke to the shifting in dynamics. With Grimms having settled primarily into Blackmarsh, their adventuring outside in the Ebontide was met with skepticism. At this time, River's Eye was protected by Lord Samuel, while Osterin Doerr defeated a Grimm war party exploring the Fallow Marches.

That there was no immediate reckoning spoke to two matters:

  1. That the Grimm confederation no longer viewed the Doerr as a threat to be met with overwhelming force.
  2. That the Doerr were no longer beholden to exploring territories not immediately contested by the Grimms.

With these developments, Doerr and Grimm clashes became more frequent, though rarely immediately within Blackmarsh or its nearby regions.

Decline[]

Over time, the Doerr ambition could not be matched with its focus on a singular governing body. Incapable of adapting to the rigors of a larger body and more diverse problems, small cliques began to develop and break apart. Families that held direct ties to the line, such as the House of Sorrough were ousted, while others began to carve out their own positions. With the emergence of Lordaeron as an expansive power, the House of Doerr was eventually forced into extinction. Now, only meager offshoots and military traditions remain of its once proud lineage.
